Edinburgh Travel Clinic. Keeping Edinburgh Safe Abroad.
Travel vaccines and expert advice from two Edinburgh pharmacies — most travellers seen the same week, all in one appointment.
We hold every vaccine you need, for anywhere you're going
The full private travel range is kept on site at both branches and given by clinical pharmacists — so your course starts the day you walk in.
Travel-ready in one visit, without the six-week wait
A dedicated travel clinic inside your local pharmacy — booked quickly, priced openly, and run by pharmacists who do this every day.
Seen this week, not in six weeks
Same-week appointments are the norm, and we keep slots back for travellers flying in the next few days. Emmanuel arranged a full course for one traveller on what she called 'extremely late notice'.
One appointment, everything done
Risk assessment, every vaccine your trip needs and your antimalarials in a single visit. We hold the full range on site, so you are not sent away to come back another day.
A pharmacist, not a call centre
You are seen by a GPhC-registered pharmacist who does travel health every day and builds the plan around your actual itinerary, not a generic country list.
Every price published before you book
The full price list is on this page. You will be told the total cost, including how many doses your course needs, before anything is given.
Simple, Convenient, Easy.
Three steps from booking to boarding. Most travellers are in and out inside twenty minutes.
Book Your Appointment
Pick a travel clinic slot online or over the phone, at either branch, at a time that suits you.
Personalised Journey
Go through your whole trip with a pharmacist — where you're going, what you'll be doing, and when you fly.
Travel Vaccines
Your pharmacist recommends and administers exactly the vaccines your trip needs, in the same visit.
Where are you heading?
Every trip is assessed on your own itinerary, not just the country — but these are the destinations our Edinburgh travellers ask about most.

"We had to get vaccinations for an upcoming holiday to Thailand, and Emmanuel, who assisted us, made the entire process a breeze. He was extremely friendly and patient throughout. What impressed me the most was how he interacted with my parents, who don't speak any English."

A proper travel clinic, inside your local pharmacy
Avante Pharmacy has been vaccinating this part of Edinburgh for decades, and our travel clinic runs from a private consultation room inside both branches. Every vaccine we offer is held on site, so you are not sent away to come back another day. It is a pharmacy, which means no referral, no waiting list and no receptionist between you and a clinician.
The clinic is led by our travel health pharmacist Emmanuel, whose name comes up again and again in our reviews — for arranging full courses at short notice, and for the patience he shows with families. You will be seen by a GPhC-registered pharmacist every time, not a general assistant.
Two Edinburgh branches, one travel clinic
Westfield Road sits inside the Sainsbury's supermarket and covers Gorgie, Slateford, Stenhouse and the west of the city. Brougham Place is on the Tollcross and Bruntsfield side, a short walk from the Meadows. Both run the same travel clinic — book whichever is easier to reach.

Your travel vaccination questions, answered
Everything travellers ask us before booking, answered straight.
We have two Edinburgh branches. Westfield Road is inside the Sainsbury's supermarket at 39 Westfield Road, EH11 2QW, which covers Gorgie, Slateford, Stenhouse, Saughton and the west of the city. Brougham Place is at number 26, EH3 9JU, on the Tollcross and Bruntsfield side, a short walk from the Meadows. Both run the same travel clinic, so book whichever is easier to reach.
Our full price list is published on this page and on our pricing page, so you can see the cost before you book. Single-dose vaccines start at £40, and multi-dose courses are priced per dose — a three-dose rabies course, for example, is £99 per dose. You will always be given the total for your course before anything is given.
Yes. We are a designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, centre number UKYFVC10709, so we can both administer yellow fever vaccine and issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis. Yellow fever is £75 with the certificate included and issued at the appointment. Bring your passport, because the certificate has to match your travel document exactly, and remember the certificate becomes valid ten days after the dose.
Often yes. We keep slots back each week for travellers who are flying soon — one of our reviewers had a full course arranged at what she described as extremely late notice. Call 0131 287 2020 for Westfield Road or 0131 229 7948 for Brougham Place and we will tell you honestly what we can do. Even close to departure there is usually something worth having, because several travel vaccines give useful protection within days.
Ideally four to eight weeks before you fly, because several courses need more than one dose spaced over weeks. Book earlier still for rabies, hepatitis B or Japanese encephalitis. If you are already inside that window, book anyway — accelerated schedules exist and we use them regularly.
No. You do not need a GP referral or a letter to use a private travel clinic. You book directly with us, which is why most people come to us when their practice cannot offer a travel appointment before their departure date.
It depends on where you are going, what you will be doing there and what you have had before — not just the country. Bring your itinerary and your pharmacist will assess it against current NaTHNaC and TravelHealthPro guidance and tell you what is recommended, what is required for entry, and equally what you do not need.
Yes. The pre-exposure rabies course is one of the most common requests we see, particularly for South and South East Asia, Africa and South America, and for anyone working with animals abroad. It runs over three doses at £99 per dose, so book early and we will plan the dose dates around your flight.
Yes. The meningitis ACWY vaccination required for a Hajj or Umrah visa is £60 and the certificate is issued at your appointment, so you have the paperwork the same day. Book well ahead of your visa application date.
Yes. If your trip carries a malaria risk your pharmacist will talk through bite avoidance and supply suitable antimalarial tablets in the same visit, subject to a suitability assessment. There is no need for a separate appointment.
Yes. We vaccinate children regularly and see whole families before a trip. Bring their vaccination record if you have it, because some travel vaccines have different schedules or doses for children.
A few are available through some GP practices, but many of the ones travellers actually need — including rabies, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever and tick-borne encephalitis — are private everywhere. In practice the bigger issue is availability: NHS travel appointments in Edinburgh are often booked weeks ahead, which is why most people come to a private clinic.
About twenty minutes for most travellers. That covers your risk assessment, the vaccinations themselves and your written record, all in one visit.
Your travel itinerary with dates, a list of any medicines you take, and your vaccination record if you have one. If you have had travel vaccines before, even years ago and elsewhere, tell us — it often means fewer doses and a lower total cost. For yellow fever, bring your passport.
Often yes, but it needs a proper assessment. Some vaccines are avoided in pregnancy and some depend on your medical history or medication, so your pharmacist will go through it with you and give a clear recommendation. If something is not suitable we will say so and explain the alternatives.
Yes. We regularly see families travelling together, student groups, volunteers and staff being sent abroad for work. Call either branch and we will arrange consecutive appointments so everyone is done in one trip.
Westfield Road is open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Brougham Place is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm. Both are closed on Sunday. Saturday slots fill fastest, so book ahead if a weekend appointment suits you.
Both branches also run an ear wax microsuction clinic and a medical weight management service, alongside the full range of NHS and private pharmacy services. Ask at your appointment or call the branch for details.
